Located in the historic Xintiandi district of Shanghai, a boutique garden embraces a centuries-old Shikumen house, home to Boucheron’s largest flagship store in the city—and the brand’s very first boutique to feature a garden. Since its founding in 1858, the legendary French Maison has championed exquisite craftsmanship, a legacy that now meets Shanghai’s rich architectural heritage at this prestigious site.

To create a bridge between cultures, we designed two distinct landscapes to frame this prestigious site, drawing equally from French landscape traditions and Chinese garden culture.
Using Boucheron’s signature plant palette, the space brings the Maison’s iconic jewelry motifs directly into the physical environment. Ivy, famously featured in the Lierre de Paris and historic Question Mark collections, pairs perfectly with ferns, a signature motif introduced by founder Frédéric Boucheron in the late 19th century. Together with lush mosses, this curated selection creates a deeply immersive backdrop for visitors.

To echo Boucheron’s enduring connection to nature, the french garden showcases nature in a lush and untamed state, drawing inspiration from the iconic winter garden of the historic 26 Place Vendôme store in Paris. A traditional gloriette is set within rich, layered planting to welcomes visitors. Walkways gently guide toward the boutique’s main entrance, offering clients a sensory moment immersed in Frédéric Boucheron’s beloved vision of nature.

In contrast, the Chinese garden is conceived as an intimate scene in front of one of the store’s display windows. Designed to be admired from within, a moon gate frames a dreamlike composition of sculptural stones, mist, and a circular reflecting pond. Here, traditional lilies are reimagined as an abstract metal sculpture, creating a poetic interplay of reflections from the water and the sculpture. This dream-like and mysterious atmosphere offers a poetic moment, aimed to enhance the boutique experience.

Together, the two gardens blend French elegance and Chinese poetry through BOUCHERON’s signature plant palette into an immersive retail landscape that offers moments of contemplation and a quiet breath of nature.
